30 30 By Dena Marie Christy Photos provided by Remember This…, LLC r e a d u s o n l i n e a t w w w . c i t y s o c i a l . c o m Family Road of Greater Baton Rouge presents Fifth a nnual s olaris a wards Gala Honoring Organizations and Business Working for the Greater Good for Greater Baton Rouge Family Road of Greater Baton Rouge hosted its Fifth Annual Solaris Awards Gala on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at L'Auberge Baton Rouge; the event was emceed by Andre' Moreau, with music provided by Nick Abraham's Band. The Family Road of Greater Baton Rouge Solaris Award competition recognizes and honors local area programs and their organizations for their exceptional service to the Greater Baton Rouge community. The awards are not for individuals, but honor the greatest form of collaboration: "TEAM WORK." In addition to the award recognition, recipient programs received a monetary gift. Judges for the competition represented the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, Huey and Angelina Wilson Foundation and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation. The evening opened with a greeting/invocation by Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome followed by guest Speaker Jim Engster, President of Louisiana Radio Network. CEO/President Dena Christy, Board Chair Cheryl Tolbert, Board Chair and Emcee Andre' Moreau honored the devoted Family Road employees for their years of service including: Kismet Gray (5 yrs.), Normanique Butler (6 yrs.), Albert Champion (10 yrs.), Theresta Stewart Thomas (10 yrs.), Levyette Matthews (10 yrs.) and Karla Sayer Wilburn (15 yrs). Past Board Chair David Beach and Past Board Vice Chair Samuel Sanders were honored for their dedication, hard work and commitment to Family Road and the Greater Baton Rouge Community. As the evening continued, Andre' Moreau provided information on the organizations nominated and their work in the community. Nominees anxiously awaited to hear their names announced as a finalist in each category until the drum roll introduced the winners. There were eight categories and one overall winner. The winners included the following: Presenting sponsors included Lamar, Kean Miller, LLP, Postlethwaite & Netterville and Whitney Bank. Media Sponsor: City Social.
