Travel and vacaTion loom ahead Transition into Spring and the Fashions For the Trip By Rosalind Tuminello Setting the clocks forward this month signals more than longer hours of daylight—it's an annunciation of the oncoming of spring and hints that soon warmer weather will change our moods, and most importantly, our wardrobes. for the fashion-conscious and every woman who has been pining to do some serious shopping, March cannot arrive too soon. Those enticing cruise line pamphlets and last year's photos of the beach are starting to shift out thoughts from the location of our umbrellas to exciting travel plans and vacations. Like all anticipated vacations, filling our suitcases and beach bags with pretty new duds is part of the fun, and it was lots of fun when we at City Social visited two of the area's most popular and chic boutiques—Poise 'n Ivy in Baton rouge and Miss Priss in Prairieville—to take a look at the vast choices of transition and travel clothes for any destination Poise 'n Ivy – Spring will be a Little Blue this Year "The color blue is going to be very popular this year. Turquoise, aqua, cobalt, royal, and azure are the colors we are seeing for spring and summer fashions. Turquoise looks good on everyone; I don't know of any woman, regardless of complexion—brunette, redhead, blonde, or grey—that is not appealing in this color," said Jamie Tarwater, manager of Poise 'n Ivy boutique which has been in business for 47 years, 27 of them at its Highland Road Location. A favorite shop in the city, Poise 'n Ivy has beautifully dressed local women of all ages from teenagers searching for that "drop-dead gorgeous" prom dress to the 20-30 something career women as well as the youthfully mature woman who prefers an age-appropriate wardrobe, but one that remains stylish and chic. With the abundance of fashion knowledge combined with a history of knowing what women want to wear, Tabor and Tarwater's decades in the business have resulted in their keen sense of what appeals to women. Their experience and flair for style has served them well. Aware of the importance of keeping abreast of evolving trends in the retail clothing business, the two fashion forward-minded women travel to the many buyers' markets to fill their store with attire for every figure and every age. "We try to stay on trend without being trendy," said Tarwater, pointing to a pair of slim-legged Lisette L ankle length pants. Perfect to tuck into boots on those lingering cool days and just as smart worn with a pair of flirty sandals, wedges, or flats, these stretch pull-on pants with their insert slimming front panel come in a variety of colors, including blue, black and white, and polka-dots. A huge seller, these pants are for every figure, emphasizing the positives and diminishing the negatives. "Paired with one of the longer flowing sheer or laser cut (peek-a-boo) tunic tops in blues as well as multi-colored shades of coral, green, orange, and yellow, the effect is stunning. Worn over a camisole or tank top, this ensemble can go anywhere from day to night events," continued Tarwater, who added that Capri pants will continue to be popular among the young and older clients as well, and this length pant leg for vacationers is Poise 'n Ivy's recommendation in lieu of shorts. As the fashion world gravitates to a casual mode, jeans are accepted in any setting. Tarwater noted that jeans can be worn with everything Read us online at 35
