Helping Hands Benefit for Claire Cox To Help Cover the Cost of a Kidney Transplant Baton rouge resident Claire Cox was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease in high school. This is an aggressive disease where overtime cysts cover both kidneys and cause kidney failure, resulting in dialysis and a kidney transplant. After living in denial throughout college, Claire eventually woke up one night in excruciating pain. One of the cysts on her kidney was severely infected. The doctor told Claire that her kidneys were not functioning properly, and that both of them needed to be removed. Claire is finally getting a kidney transplant; her cousin is a match and happily agreed to donate a kidney. Claire's friends are throwing a benefit to raise money with her out-of-pocket expenses. It will be Saturday, September 6 at 7 p.m. at Carter Plantation in Springfield, Louisiana. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at Paris Parker Salon and Spa off of Jefferson Hwy. Donations can also be dropped off at the salon or at Lagniappe Frame Shop and Art Gallery in Baton Rouge (cash or check only). There is an account set up at Chase Bank under Claire Cox Benefit where people can call or drop off donations. Claire said, "I am very hon- ored, humbled, and feel very blessed to have the love and sup- port of everyone here in the com- munity. I thank everyone for all of the good thoughts and prayers that are being sent my way. My surgery is tentatively scheduled for September 29, but could be moved up even sooner than that, so I will be healthy again by the e n d o f September!" 35
