Scheduled for September 13-14, this parking lot event will take place at PetSmart's Westbank loca- tion, 1321 Manhattan Blvd in Harvey, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. During this two-day event, poten- tial adopters can name their own adoption fee on any available dog, puppy, cat or kitten at the event. While no offer will be refused, adopters are encouraged to make a donation that will allow the participating shelters to continue to help animals get healthy, stay healthy and find loving homes throughout the com- munity. You may be surprised to learn that the aver- age cost to rescue groups to get your new pet ready is $488 for a dog/puppy and $417 for a cat/kitten. Rest assured; the adoption standards haven't changed. Adopters still get to complete an adoption application and consult with matchmaking experts before any adoption is finalized. Only now, they'll have the opportunity to put their own price on a life- time of love! Not only will adopters gain a friend for life, but adopting will also help make room for more pets in need. Whether you're looking for your new best friend or not, you're invited to attend the event where, in addition to lots of wagging tails, you'll find food, beverages, music and more. 4th Annual Blue Ribbon Soiree To Raise Funds for Prostate Cancer Research The fourth annual "Blue Ribbon Soiree" Prostate Cancer Research Fundraiser will take place at the Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel, located at 7000 Bluebonnet Blvd., on Thursday, September 25 from 7–10 p.m. The event, which takes place during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, will feature tast- ings of signature dishes from several area restaurants, a large selection of beverages, a silent auction and a jewelry raffle.
