47 The Friendship Force of Baton Rouge hosted its 10 th annual Christmas in July Party for the vet- erans at the War Veterans Home. The Baranco-Clark YMCA held a ribbon cut- ting ceremony to officially open its new Splash Pad, funded by the City of Baton Rouge Office of Community Development. Capital Area CASA Association kicked off its 20th annual Casas for CASA playhouse fund- raiser with the CASA Fiesta. Tommy Spinosa surprised his 3 year old and her birthday party guests with a private visit from Venessa, the Louisiana Mermaid. In return, he donated $1,000 to the St. Elizabeth Foundation. Kather Solomon, daughter of Southern Theatre's owner George Solomon, cut the ribbon for the new Movie Tavern in Covington. Jay Grymes, Senior Meteorologist at WAFB-TV pre- sented "Weather Extremes in Historical Louisiana" to the Baton Rouge Genealogical and Historical Society. Dr. Valentine is board certified in family medicine. BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo is excited to announce the birth of Malayan tiger cubs. They are the first tiger cubs born at the Baton Rouge Zoo in almost 25 years, and the fifth and sixth Malayan cubs born in the U.S. this year. Several months ago, 8-year-old Joey Aiden Roth, founder of J.A.R. for Change, placed jars in various public places so people could donate their loose change. Joey raised enough money to fund a project on Woman's wishlist – purchasing iPads to help mothers connect with their sick and premature newborns. The Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross accepted a donation of $5,000 from owner George Solomon. Pictured are George Soloman, Kay Wilkins, Gary Lorio and Jennifer Rice.
