21 The 4th Annual Third Street Songwriters Festival has become part of a "triple treat" of festivals occurring in Downtown Baton Rouge in April alongside the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge's Ebb & Flow Festival and the Baton Rouge Blues Festival. The festival will occur in the 3rd weekend of April (April 20-22) and feature performances by over 100 singer-songwriters. Among the performances will be local, regional, up-and-coming and hit songwriters of Nashville, who will perform original songs, as well as give you the "story behind the song." Most of the performances will be in a Nashville-style songwriter round, one where a handful of singer-songwriters will take the stage and take turns singing their songs. Festival performers will include singer-songwriters covering all genres of music from country to blues to folk and everything in between. Kay McHenry Solar, founder and producer of the Third Street Songwriters Festival believes that this festival will become a destination festival for Downtown Baton Rouge. Since the inaugural festival 4 years ago, McHenry Solar has seen a surge in the original music scene in Baton Rouge. The festival also has an educational component for our local songwriters, connecting them to Nashville's music industry pros and providing great networking opportunities. At the same time, it provides an amazing weekend of music for all 4th Annual Third Street Songwriters Festival-The Story Behind the Song those that LOVE live original music! The festival's main show will be held on Saturday, April 21st at the Manship Theatre; it will feature Grammy-winning producer and multi-genre hit songwriter Gary Nicholson, who has seen over 600 of his songs recorded by such artists as George Strait, B.B. King, Fleetwood Mac and more. The show will open with a Nashville songwriter round featuring Baton Rouge's CJ Solar of Sea Gayle Music, a Nashville- based publishing company co- owned by Brad Paisley. Solar has had his songs recorded by Jerrod Niemann, Justin Moore, Morgan Wallen/Florida Georgia Line and more. Fellow Sea Gayle writer Clint Daniels has had #1 hits with Joe Nichols, Montgomery Gentry and Louisianan Greg Barnhill. Greg is a New Orleans native with cuts by Gary Allan, Vince Gill, Etta James and many more. The show and the kickoff party to be held on April 20th are ticketed events. All other shows during the weekend along 3rd Street are free and open to the public. For all your festival information, schedule and tickets, visit wwwthirdstreetsongwritersfestival.com. Nashville industry pros give a panel discussion and then critique local songwriters. The panel listens to local songwriter Martin Flannigan before giving their critiques. Hometown boy CJ Solar brings in a van full of Nashville songwriters to play the festival each year. "It's all about the songs this weekend." Brent Anderson performs at the kickoff party at the Red Dragon Listening Room. Brent wrote the #1 hit single "Lonely Tonight" for Blake Shelton, ft. Ashley Monroe.
