25 You're strolling through BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center (BSNC) trails as you hear the flutter of birds and the chirping of insects in the distance. You walk over the mile of gravel paths and boardwalks that connect varied habitats— cypress-tupelo swamp, beech-magnolia and hardwood forests, to name a few. There's a new world to discover with every step. The wildlife is plentiful (and they're just as curious about you, too). As you explore, you notice your mind is painting a picture of the beauty both in front of and behind you. Our state truly is a unique masterpiece and BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp is proud to connect people to the art of nature. In addition to the natural beauty that can be seen in the swamp's trails and treasures, BSNC is set to hold this year's Swamp Art Show Series; the series features 3 art exhibits per year showcasing the unique flora and fauna of Louisiana. The Fiber Art Show started off the series, running throughout February; next is the Photography Show in the spring and Fine Art Show in the fall. Each show features a different theme and awards cash prizes to winners for "Best in Theme" and "Visitors' Choice" in both adult and youth categories— yes, you read that right, cash prizes for all ages. An Artists' Reception is also held on the last Sunday of each show for visitors to mingle with the artists and learn more about the inspiration behind their works. This year's Fiber Art Show exhibitors were inspired by the beauty of Bluebonnet Swamp's "Native Animals," creatures that are a natural part of the park. Although the first show has passed, there's still time to submit your pieces for the Photography Show, "Swamp Shadows & Reflections", that will be featured April 24th to May 20th. For the final installment of the Swamp's Art Show Series, celebrating "Symbiosis," artists of all ages are invited to be moved by the relationships shared in nature. Those interested in working on entry pieces for the Swamp Art Show Series can visit the swamp for inspiration during their Swamp Art Show Field Days. Whether your gear includes canvases or cameras, you can enjoy this paint-out and field-shoot day. Bring your own supplies—they'll provide work space indoors and out for you to create your masterpieces.
